About the Book:
This textbook was first published in 1967 in English and then in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi has been much in use and appreciated not only by ANM Schools of Nursing-both Government and private-but also by Higher Secondary Schools for students taking the vocational course in nursing.
In 1977 the ANM course was completely revised by the Indian Nursing Council and expanded to include Sociology, Health Education, Communication Skills and other subjects necessary to equip the Multipurpose Health Worker/ANM to serve effectively as a primary health care worker in the community. Such workers are key persons for achieving the goal of "Health for All" to which we in India are committed.
This book A TEXTBOOK FOR THE HEALTH WORKER (ANM) Volume II has been revised by Miss A M Chalkley which follows Volume I. Volume I is about Primary/health careworkers working with the community and with families. Volume II is about health of the individuals which contains most of the material found in the popular Textbook for Auxiliary Nurse-Midwives. This edition is completely revised according to the Health Worker/ANM syllabus of the Indian Nursing Council.
About the Author:
Miss Audrey M Chalkley was a Methodist Missionary Nurse from United Kingdom. She served the Church of South India Hospital, Ikkadu near Chennai as a Ward Sister, Nursing Tutor and Nursing Superintendent from the year 1947 to 1977. From 1977 to 1985 she worked with the Board of Nursing Education, NL, CMAI as Chairperson of the Health Worker/ANM Section of the Board. Ikkadu is a village and her rich experience with the villagers for nearly four decades has enriched the value of this book which is meant for people who work with the rural community of India.
