Legacy of the book

The origin of this magnificent work goes way back in the early 20th century. As stated above, the first edition of the Laws of England was authored by Stanley Shaw Bond who was humble enough to invite the Earl of Halsbury to be the editor in chief of the book, and thus the name – The Halsbury’s Laws of England. It’s been a tradition since then, for the Halsbury’s Laws of England to have a former Lord chancellor as its editor in chief.

The second edition was launched in 1932 with 37 volumes. Lord Hailsham was the editor in chief. The third edition had 43 volumes and was published in 1952 with Lord Simonds as the editor in chief.
