Containing papers presented at the Fourth International Conference on Prevention, Assessment, Rehabilitation, Restoration and Development of Brownfield Sites, this book discusses the problems facing public and private sectors, and the engineering and scientific communities, in terms of the land available for development purposes. The Conference looked at long-term plans for the productive re-use of properties that have been abandoned or lie idle, in order to satisfy current needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own requirements.Brownfield redevelopment is not solely an environmental issue, as it requires the involvement of the financial, regulatory and community interests; and that makes the whole process complicated. This is the reason why lending institutions, investors and real estate developers are cautious when dealing with brownfield redevelopment.
