Stefan Ferber of Bosch Software Innovations predicts that by 2026, the Internet of Things will interconnect more than 50 billion components, with applications to healthcare, electric vehicle transportation systems, industrial production and energy consumption management. The Internet of Things will require the use of Internet Protocol (IP) version 6, for at least two major reasons. Current address space of IPv4 is running out of available numbers and the standard security level of the Internet is due for an upgrade.
