Description
CBS Publishers & Distributors Cardiovascular Emergenciesrecognition And Management 2 Vol Set 2019 by K C Verma
Begins with a brief overview of history taking, physical examination, and investigative techniques just as in any other book in the discipline of medicine. Percutaneous coronary interventions remain the cornerstone in the management of both acute and chronic coronary obstructions, congenital anomalies; optical coherence tomography, IVUS and fractional flow reserve (FFR ) in any of the cardiac catheterization laboratories but till recently coronary angioplasty has also been performed with robotic interventions. A brief description of these procedures has been recorded in this book. The heart failure, which is often the terminal event of many congenital and acquired heart disorders, is yet another cardiac emergency which attracts the attention of the physician, cardiologist, or the cardiac surgeon in the emergency department all over the world. This subject has been written with utmost care giving details of its recognition with international recommendations and medical and surgical interventions in its management.
Cardiac arrhythmias, both in children and adults, are not only difficult to diagnose but also to manage these rhythm disturbances with emergent treatment. This book also includes investigations and pharmacological and catheter-based technologies of their respective management. A brief description of infections leading to varying cardiac complications such as myocarditis, endocarditis, pericarditis, cardiac tamponade, and additionaly DCM, valvular and vascular emergencies, hypothermia, and cardiogenic shock have been included in this book. Also given is the description of invasive procedures and noninvasive cardiovascular imaging techniques which are most essential in any emergency department. Cardiac resuscitation is the most essential part of management of cardiac emergencies, both on roadside and inside the ICU, hence the book describes in detail the techniques of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, non-invasive ventilation, ‘ECMO’ therapy in acute cardiopulmonary failure. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy are most important modes of treatment of systemic malignancy disorders leading to varying grades of cardiac complications. The text includes the brief account of side effects and their respective management. In emergency department the attending physician (duty medical officer) may find young children and adolescents admitted with either heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, intoxicated with frequently prescribed drugs such as digitalis, calcium channel blockers, beta-blockers and other antiarrhythmics for their respective treatment, or other addictions such as alcohol and cocaine. This book records their brief account under separate chapters “Cardiac emergencies in children and adolescents” and “Toxicologic cardiovascular emergencies”.
