Oakbridge Publishing Pvt. Ltd. Decoding Child Sexual Abuse 2021 Edition by Dr Justice Shalini Phansalkar Joshi

Oakbridge’s Decoding Child Sexual Abuse by Dr Justice Shalini Phansalkar Joshi – 1st Edition 2021.

    Key Features :
Decoding Child Sexual Abuse examines the social malady of sexual abuse of children from a socio- legal perspective. The book highlights the need to recognise the impact and to gauge the gravity of child sexual abuse. In this context the book discusses the lacunae in the existing legal framework in India. The book analyses in detail the provisions of The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, and the Rules framed thereunder. In addition to this the book also examines the other related statutes including the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015 and the Indian Penal Code, 1860.

The book provides a holistic view on the subject and will act as a reference to develop best practices relating to substantive and procedural laws. A chapter is dedicated to the comparative analysis of the laws in other jurisdictions and the international conventions and treaties on the subject. The book discusses different dimensions of the subject including the secondary victimisation during trial and the investigation stage. While explaining the procedural laws applicable in cases of child sexual abuse, the need for sensitisation of all the persons involved in the trial process is emphasised. This book will be useful for Judges, Practitioners, Police Officers, Social Activists, NGOs, Judicial Academies, Academicians, and Researchers.

Dr Justice Shalini Phansalkar Joshi is the former Judge of Bombay High Court. She has also worked as Judge of Family Court at Pune and then as the Registrar General of Bombay High Court. She was the Joint Director and thereafter the Officiating Director of Maharashtra Judicial Academy and has conducted training programs for Judicial Officers, Police Officers, Public Prosecutors, Members of Bar, Probation Officers and other stakeholders in National and State Judicial Academies and law colleges. She is presently on the panel of examiners for PhD candidates at Mumbai University and a ‘Distinguished Visiting Judge in Residence’ at the Symbiosis Law School, Pune. She has been invited to contribute to various national and international conferences and to present papers on a range of contemporary and socially relevant subjects.
