New Age International (P) Ltd., Publishers Enlightened Leadership And Values-Based Management by Dr. K M Mital
This book entitled ‘Enlightened Leadership and Values-Based Management’ analyses the impact of enlightened leadership and the role of human values in managing business and governing the nation at large within the realm of Indian culture. In organizations human values indicate desired standards of organizational behaviour which employees expect leaders should adhere to manage organizations. Indian culture is a reservoir of human values which in a way is an extension of country’s age-old Vedic and spiritual traditions impacted by country’s different religions. Spirituality inspires serving others rather than seeking personal favours. A leadership at any level, company, local self-government or national, has to be enlightened in outlook based on human values such as satya-mev jayate (truth alone triumphs) which is the new emerging paradigm for management at corporate or governance at national level. Enlightened leadership needs appropriate human values to manage organizations (values-based management), civic entities (values-based administration) and nation at large (values-based governance).
The book seeks to delineate human values and pearls of wisdom heavily from lives of sages and seers and layers of Indian civilization held in more than 5000 years of its existence and their relevance in twenty-first century. It also draws insights from the lives of national and corporate leaders by covering their life sketches and underscoring ‘highs’ and ‘lows’ in their lives. The book is divided into eighteen chapters and two appendices (glossary and recommended further readings). Each chapter is a general review of chosen theme based on interpretation of human values and management ethos emanating from the Vedas, Upanishads and Purans, Bhagvad Gita, Hindu-trinity – Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh; two great epics,Ramayana and Mahabharata; major Indian religions– Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Christianity, Islam and Sikhism; literature masterpieces of Tulsidas and Kabir like Sri Ramcharitmanas and Kabir Dohavali, including sayings or quotes of great Indian saint leaders such as Swami Vivekananda and Mahatma Gandhi; and in corporate world of the likes of Jamsetji Nusservanji Tata,G D Birla, J R D Tata, Dhirubhai Ambani, Lakshmi Niwas Mittal, Ratan Tata and Mukesh Ambani.
