About the Book

The book covers financial instruments from the perspective of the issuer as well as the investor. It explains the concept of recognition, classification and subsequent measurement of financial assets and liabilities, de-recognition of financial assets and liabilities and impairment model. It also covers fair value and cash flow hedge accounting, disclosures required for financial instruments, fair value concepts and effects of fluctuations in foreign exchange.

It includes lucid commentary on Financial Instruments as per Ind AS, discussing Ind AS 32, Ind AS 109, Ind AS 107, and some portions of Ind AS 113 and Ind AS 21. As we all know, Financial Instruments accounting is a new concept in India. The Indian Accounting Standards relating to financial instruments are quite complex and voluminous. The said standards (along with other 34 standards) are applicable from 1st April 2016 for Phase 1 companies, while the rest of the world would be adopting the equivalent standard IFRS 9 only from 1st Jan 2018.

About the Author

A graduate of the University of Madras, Venkata Subramani is a Chartered Accountant who began his career with a professional accounting firm in Chennai. [Qualified in the year 1983]. Currently he is engaged in IFRS advisory services operating from Chennai. He also conducts regular training programs to improve memory / attention to details for various corporate entities.

ill recently he was the Head of Business Management & Operations Control at Northern Trust, Bangalore. Northern Trust Corporation is a Chicago based Bank, a leading provider of investment management, asset and fund administration, fiduciary and banking solutions for corporations, institutions and affluent individuals worldwide.

Earlier he was the Product Manager at Calypso Technology, a global financial software and services company and was in charge of redesigning the hedge accounting part of the software. Author’s expertise includes accounting and reporting for different types financial instruments as per IFRS. Earlier he was managing team of core finance and accounts professionals in a US based hedge fund administration firm serving several global clients.

He is a faculty at the CA Institute for IFRS Certificate Courses and for specialized courses on Financial Instruments. He holds a diploma in IFRS from ACCA. Venkat a rank holder in both CA and ICWAI exams and has an overall experience of more than three decades.
