Description
Ess Ess Publications Global Status of Indian University Library Websites by Shalini Asan
The book focuses on understanding the current status of library websites of universities of India and ranking them domestically to ascertain their positioning at the global level. During the course of the investigations, the author used several tools and techniques and included a number of web indicators that numbered over 105. Along with the Web Indicators, there were the Sitebeam Web Analyzer Test Scores as well as Web Impact Factors. The list of about 105 Library Web Indicators has been categorized into five blocks. These five blocks are Resource, Service, Link, Information and Design as well as Graphics. Further, a category of new initiatives with nearly 38 new library web indicators was created. These indicators were further divided into five parts which are Reference Tools, ICT, Abstract Citation Databases, Repositories, Social Networking Sites. The Web Analyzers proved to be another source of useful evolutional tools for the websites. They are useful for evaluating indicators which are virtually impossible to be evaluated by humanly. They are useful in investigating other finer points like Search Engines Optimization (SEO) tools, hit counts, etc. which were resorted to being tested by Sitebeam Web Analyser under due acknowledgment. The Web Impact Factors provided detailed insights on the feasibility and reliability through calculating impact factors for websites. These investigations contained quantitative indicators of Ingwersen (1998), where as WIF is calculable and reliable only when processed through a series of inverted, yet identical Boolean Operations which estimate the number of isolated, estimated web pages that point to the pages at a given site. The Librarian Survey is also presented for getting insight into their expert views and experiences while working on these University Library Websites.
