The book is a description of the fundamental bases of nutritional science and to provide an account of their application to the different species of animals. As before, Section I is concerned with the general properties of the main chemical constituents of feeding stuffs and with their metabolism in the animal body, thus providing a basis for section II, in which the various foods are dealt with in turn. A mew departure in section III, wherein the basic needs of livestock for maintenance, growth, reproduction, lactation and work are considered from a general point of view.It is hoped that this section will provide aa link between the preceding ones and section IV, in which last section the practical feeding of the different animal species is dealt with.
