Purpose of this book is to supply scientific information on ornamental horticulture in India. Information on famous Gardens of India, Climbers, Shrubs and Flowering Annuals, etc. has been furnished by various authors in the form of small books. In the present case, an effort has been made to collect all relevant informa- tion on ornamental horticulture for the benefit of the garden lovers and students of ornamental horticulture in various agricultural colleges and universities. In all there are eight chapters. In the first four chapters, effort has been made to highlight the Bio-aesthetic Planning inculding Town and Country Planning, Beautifying Railway Stations, Canal Headworks, Dam sites, River banks, etc. There are three chapters dealing with various types of garden, i.e., Moghul, English and Japanese. There is an excellent chapter on plant materials which could be used for landscapping under various situations. This includes ornamental and foliage trees, shrubs and climbers. A list of important nurseries in India is also included for the benefit of the garden lovers. This book was written under the guidance of Dr.M.S. Randhawa, D.Sc., I.C.S., Vice-Chancellor, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. The author is grateful to him for his continued guidance in writing this book and in editing the manuscript critically.
