Description
John Wiley The Brain And Obesity by Cizza
The prevalence of obesity has dramatically increased over the last25 years. In the United States, it is estimated that two–thirds ofthe population is either overweight or obese. This increase willundoubtedly continue to have profound medical, economic, andpsychosocial consequences. As obesity and its medical complicationsbecome more common, novel inter–disciplinary approaches areemerging to help understanding the complex regulation of eatingbehavior and body weight. Although the notion that the brain iscritical in regulating food intake and body weight is becoming morecommonly accepted, innovative ideas examining this complexrelationship must be pursued. Stemming from a 2007 2008lecture series at the National Institute of Diabetes and DigestiveKidney Diseases, this Annals volume presents a series of up–to–datereviews that evaluate the role played by the brain in body weightregulation.
