It starts with a useful chapter on nomenclature including partially reduced heterocycles and polycyclic structures containing a heterocyclic nucleus. Subsequently, the heterocycles containing N, O and S are addressed in order to increase ring size along with consideration to the natural occurrence, synthesis, physical properties and chemical reactivity of important derivatives of each heterocycle. Heterocycles containing phosphorus and selenium atoms are also mentioned. Reaction mechanisms are not given in the reaction schemes but sometimes hints to the mechanisms are given in the text. The book discusses the range of heterocycles from three to nine membered rings including those containing two or more heteroatoms. In addition, fused ring systems are also discussed.
