Description
Cambridge Touched with Fire An Anthology of Poems 1985 Edition by Jack Hydes
A collection of literature anthologies and reference books for Key Stage 3 onwards. This anthology has two main objectives: to introduce students to a wide range of poetry in English from the last 400 years, and to provide them with guidance on how to approach poetry examinations. The poems are divided into six collections, not by theme or by historical period, but as satisfying small anthologies of twenty-two poems each. Clear guidance is given on what is expected in an essay for a poetry examination, and actual answers are reproduced which help the student analyse what kind of response gets good marks and why. Table of contents :- Introduction: To the reader; List of poems: Sections A-F; Section A: 'Footprints in the dew'; Writing essays on poetry for examinations; Section B: 'the light of setting suns'; Examples of essays written for examinations; Section C: 'Songs of other lands'; Building and annotating an anthology; Section D: 'This changeful life'; Writing essays in class; Section E: 'Fill all fruit with ripeness to the core'; Examinations with an 'open book'; Section F: 'I have heard the mermaids singing'; Learning poetry by heart; Appendix: poems referred to in the notes; Index of first lines; The poets.
