Arjun Publishing House Decay and Revival of Urban Centres in Medieval South India by Om Prakash Prasad
During the early christian centuries towns were important market places and administrative centres. In the fourth tenth centuries they were marked by widespread decay and desertion. This phenomenon coincided with the emerging feudal formation. Whatever remained of the urban places appeared in the from of pretty dynastic centres, feudal garrisons and places of pilgrimage. However from the eleventh century onwards the reappearance of mintsand markets amounted to an urban revival.
