In recent years the European Union has been beset by a series of profound crises. Starting with the financial crisis to the challenge of increased immigration and the growth of Euroscepticism; the EU is now facing serious questions of its own legitimacy. This collection looks at this basic question. It examines questions relating to the theory of democracy suggests why these crises have emerged and explores the judicial response to them. Having illustrated the causes and symptoms it goes on to recommend possible treatments in the form of reform proposals.
