The basic approach and design remains the same in this edition also. However, based om the feedback that we received, and our own interaction with faculty and students of dental colleges in various institutions, we hae been encouraged to add clinico-biochemical case studies of the commonly encountered clinical situations, and to strees on some aspects of the subject. We have selected problems that are common and frequently seen in patients examined and treated by clinicians, including dentists. We hop that the students would find this addition useful.The whole content has been revisited and revised. Consequently, the serum electrolyte analysis by feame photometer has been replaced by a full demonstration on blood electrolytes and gas analysis. This is in tune with the present day scenario in all hospitals and laboratories. Similarly a new write-up on "thyroid function tests" is also added. Diabetes mellitus and thyroid disorders, specially hypothyroidism, are very common and both have been well covered.New coloured pictures have been added to enhance the visual impact. Pictures of common but modern lab equipment like autopipettes, analysers, ABG-analyser etc. Have been added. Real colour pictures of crystals of sugar have also been incorporated. The picture of the pH meter has been changed to give more clarity.We hope the students will find the third edition (even) more useful.
