    Description

Bishen Singh Mahendra Pal Singh Myxomycetes of North East India and The Royal Kingdom of Bhutan by Rajesh Sharma & T N Lakhanpal

This volume "Myxomycetes of North East India and the Royal Kingdom of Bhutan '' provides a deep scientific insight of the myxomycetes of North East India and the Royal Kingdom of Bhutan. The myxomycetes are curious organisms which were well explored in the past at national and international levels. In India, myxomycetes of North India and South West India received more attention than those of North East India and were therefore monographed earlier (Thind, 1977; Lakhanpal & Mukerji, 1981; Ranade and Ranadive, 2016). This compilation is the first ever recognition to the myxomycetes of North East India and the Royal Kingdom of Bhutan. The treatise is based on original data generated over several years in these regions which had poor communication facilities and insurgency was also raising its head, when these explorations were undertaken. The monograph gives an illustrated account of 189 taxa, in 35 genera, spread over six orders and three subclasses. All the taxa have been systematically and technically described and provided with indented keys. A good number of species has been recorded for the first time from India and several are new to science. As many as 82 taxa are being described and illustrated for the first time from Bhutan. The region is a gold mine for fungi because of the favourable climatic conditions. The richness of fungi can be judged from the number of collections housed in the Herbarium of the Department of Botany, Panjab University, Chandigarh on almost all groups of higher fungi and the myxomycetes as well. The credit for this national asset is due to Rev. Prof. K.S. Thind and his worthy students.
