    Description

Springer Synchrotron Radiation Research 1st Editon 2012 Softbound by Herman Winick, S. Doniach

This book has grown out of our shared experience in the development of the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory (SSRL), based on the electron-positron storage ring SPEAR at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) starting in Summer, 1973. The immense potential of the photon beam from SPEAR became obvious as soon as experiments using the beam started to run in May, 1974. The rapid growth of interest in using the beam since that time and the growth of other facilities using high-energy storage rings (see Chapters 1 and 3) demonstrates how the users of this source of radiation are finding applications in an increasingly wide variety of fields of science and technology. In assembling the list of authors for this book, we have tried to cover as many of the applications of synchrotron radiation, both realized already or in the process of realization, as we can. Inevitably, there are omissions both through lack of space and because many projects are at an early stage. We thank the authors for their efforts and cooperation in producing what we believe is the most comprehensive treatment of synchrotron radiation research to date. 1. An Overview of Synchrotron Radiation Research.- 2. Properties of Synchrotron Radiation.- 3. Synchrotron Radiation Sources, Research Facilities, and Instrumentation.- 4. Inner-Shell Threshold Spectra.- 5. Electron Spectrometry of Atoms and Molecules.- 6. Photoemission as a Tool to Study Solids and Surfaces.- 7. Microlithography with Soft X Rays.- 8. Soft X-Ray Microscopy of Biological Specimens.- 9. Synchrotron Radiation as a Modulated Source for Fluorescence Lifetime Measurements and for Time-Resolved Spectroscopy.- 10. The Principles of X-Ray Absorption Spectroscopy.- 11. Extended X-Ray Absorption Fine Structure in Condensed Materials.- 12. X-Ray Absorption Spectroscopy: Catalyst Applications.- 13. X-Ray Absorption Spectroscopy of Biological Molecules.- 14. X-Ray Fluorescence Microprobe for Chemical Analysis.- 15. Small-Angle X-Ray Scattering of Macromolecules in Solution.- 16. Small-Angle Diffraction of X Rays and the Study of Biological Structures.- 17. Single-Crystal X-Ray Diffraction and Anomalous Scattering Using Synchrotron Radiation.- 18. Application of Synchrotron Radiation to X-Ray Topography.- 19. Inelastic Scattering.- 20. Nuclear Resonance Experiments Using Synchrotron Radiation Sources.- 21. Wiggler Systems as Sources of Electromagnetic Radiation.- 22. The Free-Electron Laser and Its Possible Developments.
