In last two decades, we have seen a vital development in the field of transportation infrastructure even then numerous traffic problems are growing day by day. This is mainly due to the increase in number of vehicles. Almost every country of the world whether developing or developed, facing problems in the management of transportation facilities. Technology has been rapidly changing society, the economy, and the way people live, work, and interact with each other. The focus of the countries all over the world is shifting from infrastructure development to the best use of the infrastructure facilities available. For the optimum use of the available transportation infrastructure, intelligent transportation systems (ITS) are being developed and used all over the world. ITS technologies have improved the safety and mobility of the transportation network through advanced applications such as electronic toll collection, in-vehicle navigation systems, collision avoidance systems, and advanced traffic management systems, and advanced traveler information systems.
Transportation Engineering focuses on different ITS architecture and model developed by various researchers all over the world has been studied and reviewed to get in-depth of their architecture. There are a number of established and emerging trends in the transport sector. An understanding of these trends can be used to make projections into the future. These projections, while uncertain, can inform transport policy, including planning decisions and public spending. It seeks to provide an overview of technology advances in transportation, focusing on sustainable transportation planning, public transport planning and management, optimization of transportation systems, application of geoinformatics in transportation, driver behavior and road safety, traffic management etc.
