Description
Ess Ess Pubns Universal Decimal Classification A Practical Manual For Information Organisation by MALLINATH KUMBAR NIVEDITHA B.
The Universal Decimal Classification is considered to be highly flexible and can classify the whole field of knowledge. Paul Otlet and Henri La Fontaine were instrumental in devising the UDC. They expanded Melvil Dewey’s Dewey Decimal Classification scheme to suit their requirements and added a number of synthetic devices and auxiliary tables that then turned the totally enumerative structure of the Decimal classification into the much more flexible and detailed Universal Decimal Classification. The UDC notations are simple and easily understood and the schedule provide simple number building instructions. It is generally used to classify documents in scientific and technical libraries.
This book on Universal Decimal Classification is in accordance with the latest edition of 2005, which is the first complete English language update of the UDC in hardcopy since 1993. The UDC is being taught in all Library Science courses in India. This is the first book of the latest edition that can act as a practical guide to meet the requirements of the teachers and students as well as practicing librarians.
