The present digest covers the law laid down by the Supreme Court from its inception in 1950 to date. It has been conceived and planned to enable the discovery of all the rulings on a point of law, easily and quickly. It is based on the time-tested SCC index system which is now widely accepted and used.
Besides using the topic and the statute approach, it is also possible to conduct a search through the Table of Cases Digested (see at pp. I-41 et seq.) provided in each volume. These tables will eventually be consolidated after the publication of the last volume. Since digest notes on the same or similar points are naturally placed close to each other, by locating the digest notes on any known case from the Table of Cases Digested, other relevant rulings on that point can easily be located nearby. For convenience the docket numbers are indicated at the top corners of pages. The Table of Cases Digested is also a convenient source for fi nding the citation and cross-citations of any decision.
Another feature of interest added is that below each ruling are given the names of the Hon’ble Judges who constituted the Bench which heard the matter, with the name of the Hon’ble Judge(s) who has/have given the opinion(s) indicated in bold. In case of several opinions in a case, the superscript numbers after the names of Judges indicate the sequence of the opinions as well as which other Judges signed each of those opinions.
