The electric power system is one of the largest and most complex infrastructures and it is critical to the operation of society and other infrastructures. The power system is undergoing deep changes which result in new monitoring and control challenges in its own operation, and in unprecedented coupling with other infrastructures, in particular communications and the other energy grids. The augmentation in electricity demand, power system privatization as well as efficacy of renewable resources has paved the way for power system companies and researchers to exploit the field of grid connected distributed generation (DG) and its issues, islanding being a dominant one. To deliver electric power in a stable, reliable, secure, and sustainable manner, from the generation system through transmission and distribution systems to end-users, the development of advanced technologies and novel methods applied to the modern power system is crucial.
This book entitled “Electric Power Systems” is concerned with the generation, transmission, distribution and utilization of electrical energy. This book provides an overview of this transformation, starting from the primary causes through the technical challenges, and some perspective solution. The work is intended to presenting new theories, technologies and top-level academic achievements in the field of protection and control in modern power systems. It strives to accelerate the development of the field by contribution of global researchers in the field.
The target audience consists of students, researchers as well as professionals working in and around the power industry whose educational background may not be in electrical engineering, but who wishes to become more familiar with the technical details and the theoretical underpinnings of the system they deal with.
