With high-voltage lines, the voltage can be stepped up at the generating station, transmitted through the transmission grid to a load center, and there stepped down to the lower voltages required by distribution lines. Thus it is vital that the electrical engineers need be equipped with the latest research and development issues in high voltage technology. This emphasizes the need for engineering/technical institutions and practicing high voltage engineers to know modern techniques for increasing power generation as well efficiently transmitting it.
